In this age where information is so easy to get ahold of, Privacy and Confidentiality are incredibly important factors in New Media and whether people are trusting the online environment. Security settings are becoming stricter because people are becoming more worried about who is accessing the information presented on the site.

When joining these sites, people want to feel safe, and know they wont be victims of identify theft. This ultimately impedes people from being as open as possible on these sites.

Personally, I really do take my privacy seriously. If a site does not ensure certain privacy settings, I will not participate in it unless under another alias.
